The Truckers' Guild
Watching Each Other's Backs on the Open Road.
The Reality We Have Ignored
Look around our GI rosters. Look at the brothers and sisters running long-haul routes from Atlanta to Los Angeles, Houston to Minneapolis, Charlotte to Seattle. Trucking is one of the largest professions in our community. We have hundreds — possibly thousands — of Kalenjin truck drivers crisscrossing this country every day. They pay our community's bills. They send the remittances home. They are the quiet backbone of many of our families.
And yet, as a community, we have done nothing to organize them, protect them, or fight for them. They have driven alone, insured alone, and faced every roadside crisis alone — even though there are dozens of us within driving distance of every breakdown.
That changes now.
"No Kalenjin trucker should ever drive alone, drive uninsured, or drive forgotten."
The Guild's Promise
Who The Guild Serves
Every Kalenjin truck driver in the United States — company drivers, owner-operators, lease-purchase drivers, and CDL school candidates alike. There are no auditions, no membership tiers based on income, and no exclusions. If you hold a CDL or are working toward one, and you are part of our community, you are part of this Guild.
The Six Programs
Each of these addresses a real problem every Kalenjin trucker faces today. None of them require us to invent something new — they require us to organize what already exists in our community and apply collective leverage.
Most truckers — especially independent owner-operators and 1099 contractors — pay $700 to $1,500 a month out-of-pocket for individual health plans. Family coverage is often out of reach entirely. Life insurance for truckers is priced punitively because of the risk profile. Disability coverage is the rarest of all, even though a single accident can wipe out a household's income overnight.
Why This Matters
For most truckers, this single program alone justifies the entire cost of GI membership several times over. Save $300 a month on health premiums and you have funded your annual GI dues many times over — with nothing else added. This is how we make Gotabgaa membership tangible.
When a Kalenjin trucker is stranded — broken-down rig in Wyoming, jackknifed trailer in Tennessee, medical emergency at a truck stop in New Mexico — there is almost certainly another Kalenjin trucker within 200 miles. Today, that fact helps no one because we have never built the infrastructure to surface it.
The Guild builds three things:
- A confidential, internal directory of every Guild member with their primary route corridors, CDL endorsements (Hazmat, Tanker, Doubles/Triples), and emergency contact preferences.
- A 24-hour dispatch WhatsApp group where members can post a location and a need — mechanical, medical, fuel, food, family — and the closest Guild members respond.
- A response protocol covering basic dos and don'ts so that help is offered safely and consistently, without exposing helpers to legal or financial risk.
Why This Matters
Every trucker has at least one story of being stuck on the side of an interstate, hours from anyone they know, watching strangers drive past. The Roadside Network turns that loneliness into a phone call. One call, and a brother or sister is on the way.
Trucking is among the most paperwork-heavy professions in America. Owner-operators wrestle with 1099 taxes, quarterly estimated payments, IFTA fuel-tax filings, DOT audits, ELD compliance, and CDL violations — most of it alone, most of it learned the hard way. A single bad audit can wipe out a year's income. A single unfair speeding ticket can put a CDL at risk.
The Guild retains vetted tax preparers who specialize in trucking, and trucking attorneys who handle CDL defense, accident litigation, DOT issues, and freight-broker disputes — all at group-discounted rates for Guild members.
Why This Matters
No trucker in our community should ever face the IRS, a DOT auditor, or a court date alone. This program is about institutional backup — making sure that when a member needs expert help, the call is already made and the rate is already negotiated.
The economics of trucking are won and lost on the margins. Five cents per gallon on fuel. Ten dollars per tire. Five percent off ELD subscriptions. These numbers feel small until you multiply them across 100,000 miles a year and 100 drivers in the Pool.
The Guild will negotiate group accounts and discount programs with:
- Major fuel networks — Pilot Flying J, TA Petro, Love's — for fleet-pricing fuel cards available to Guild members
- Tire and retread suppliers for bulk pricing on major routes
- ELD providers for group subscription rates
- DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) and lubricant suppliers for bulk member pricing
- Truck stop chains for member showers, parking, and amenities discounts
Why This Matters
A driver running 100,000 miles a year at 7 MPG burns ~14,000 gallons. Five cents a gallon saved = $700 in annual savings from this one negotiation alone. Multiply across all five categories, and most truckers see $2,000–$5,000 in annual operational savings from Guild membership.
Many of our drivers are working as company drivers (W-2) when they could be earning two to three times more as owner-operators. The barrier is not desire — it is knowledge. The path from W-2 to lease-purchase to outright ownership to multi-truck operator is real, but it is paved with traps: predatory lease deals, bad freight contracts, undercapitalized startups, and tax mistakes that ruin promising businesses in their first year.
The Pathway is an education program, not a pressure program:
- Quarterly virtual workshops taught by Kalenjin owner-operators who have made the transition successfully
- Lease-purchase contract reviews before a driver signs anything — to flag predatory clauses
- Accounting and cash-flow basics for the first 12 months of independent operation
- Freight broker introductions — connecting new owner-operators to vetted, fair-paying brokers
- Mentor pairings with established Kalenjin owner-operators willing to coach
Why This Matters
A successful transition from W-2 to owner-operator typically doubles a driver's annual take-home income. One successful transition pays for two decades of GI membership. Done at scale across our community, this program shifts hundreds of Kalenjin families from working-paycheck-to-paycheck to building real generational wealth on the road.
Long-haul trucking is one of the loneliest professions in America. Drivers are away from home for two to four weeks at a time. Spouses raise children solo. Bills get forgotten. Small repairs go undone. And the driver themselves carries the mental load of being absent — combined with the isolation of the road itself.
The Family Connection Program operates on two fronts:
Home-Side Support
Each major chapter appoints a Family Liaison who keeps gentle, regular contact with trucker families when the driver is on the road. Quick check-ins. Help with kids' school events. Coordinating chapter members for emergency household repairs when the driver cannot get home in time. This is not surveillance — it is the village showing up.
Driver-Side Wellness
The Guild partners with telehealth providers offering mental-health counseling and primary care accessible from any truck stop. Sleep apnea screening (mandatory under DOT for many drivers). Hypertension management. Depression and burnout support — all reachable by phone, no appointment required.
Why This Matters
The road takes a toll that most truckers absorb in silence. The Family Connection Program acknowledges that toll and provides real, practical support on both ends — so that the driver knows the family is held, and the family knows the driver is held.
The Year-One Targets
5 Chapter Trucker Liaisons appointed in major trucking hubs (Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, Charlotte, Minneapolis).
First nationwide Truckers' Convention held alongside the annual AGM — driver awards, vendor expo, family banquet.
Operational Savings Pool launched with at least three vendor partnerships secured (one fuel network, one tire program, one ELD provider).
Why The Truckers' Guild Belongs At The Center
The Most Practical Promise In Our Platform.
Most of what GI has historically offered members has been intangible — community, identity, an annual gathering. Those things matter. But for a working trucker pulling 70 hours a week to support a family, intangible community is not enough. They need their membership to translate into something measurable in their wallet, in their family's safety, and in their ability to keep rolling.
The Truckers' Guild does exactly that. It is the clearest, most concrete example of what Gotabgaa membership should deliver: a community that organizes itself to protect, advance, and enrich its working members. If we get this right for our truckers, we have a template for every other working profession in our community — nurses, healthcare aides, IT workers, small-business owners, and beyond.
"Breaker one-nine, this is Gotabgaa calling all my brothers and sisters on the road. Y'all are not alone out there anymore. Come back."
